WE FORFEIT (Mix 24) :: Radio Relativa #7
Show number seven on Radio Relativa went out with hopes and wishes that all out there are doing well and are safe during this time. Seeing as we are all spending copious amounts of time in the house, there’s never been a better opportunity to go digging amongst the records. This is exactly what Robbie and Chris (aka WE FORFEIT) did for their selections.
Digging amongst the records
Show number seven on Radio Relativa went out with hopes and wishes that all out there are doing well and are safe during this time. Seeing as we are all spending copious amounts of time in the house, there’s never been a better opportunity to go digging amongst the records. This is exactly what Robbie and Chris did for their selections.
The metallic crunch and warming strings of an absolute solid gold electronica classic, Gescom’s “Keynell” gets the ball bearings rolling. L’usine’s silken computer compositions follow with Michael Fakesch stirring sweetened synthlines into a syrupy soup of smashed snares.
The superb John Beltran is up next with the beautifully crafted “Wet With Rain” before the spatial ambience of Scanner’s Eros is bitten by The Black Dog. Keeping in this mellow mood, we’re off to Chris’ homeland with Lord of the Isles, the Scot’s delicate ode to the north of Spain, “Galicia,” mixed with The Actor’s Pedantry from the always amazing Ampoule, from Glasgow, before City Centre Office’s Boy Robot.
Robbie goes a bit off-piste with some afro-cosmic shenanigans and new-wave rave from Dj Steffan Egger and Dutch Dream Girls with Chris then taking the helm. Darker tones loom with selections from Shitcluster, Savage Grounds and Torrent (another nod to Chris’ town.)
Chris delves into his collection, digging out some gems from his adopted homeland of Spain. Labels like Clasicos Del Ruido feature alongside some greats of Iberian electronics in the form of Aviador Dro. That post-punk wave line is further explored with glowering, growling bangers from Beau Wanzer, Smersh and Bunker Records’ Pantser Fabriek.
To end, with the sun now beginning to shine here in Madrid and the news beginning to slowly improve, a bright and brilliant italo number from Stage; perhaps an indication of more italo to come next month? Who knows? WE FORFEIT do.
In these difficult times, WE FORFEIT wish you well and your loved ones well. If you like any of the music in particular in this month’s show, please do check out the artists and labels involved. Music is a hard number at the best of times, during this period any support for the creators will be much appreciated.
